Help with scanning photos etc.
This service will not be complete when it comes to listing NA actors. Always remember this is just an amateur's attempt at helping out NA actors - and bring more photos unto the site. A photo directory to complement my link directory. It's not a business.
I'm starting a new service on the net, and would like for NA actors and agents to participate. In short, I'd like to put up a free casting resource. Because it's on NativeCelebs, it'll receive plenty of exposure. I already have an Actor photo section, and I thought it was almost dead (no new photos for months). When I moved the site I got full access logs, and quickly realized I was wrong. It's one of the most viewed sections on the site! Another photo section (which this casting photos will be) is definitely going to make a splash! There's no other casting service on the net quite like this one (that I could find), so you've got nothing to lose by putting your photo up there.
The only thing you might regret is putting contact information on there that leads directly to the actor! I expect different solutions to that potential headache (e-mail address - screened?, agent's name without phone number, agent's phone number, agent's mailing address, maildrop, no contact info - just union name). If you've got an official site on the net one of the webmasters might do the screening (as I do for Duane Loken). Since industry people will know how to get hold of an actor's agent anyway, you don't absolutely need a phone number here, as long as he/she is with one of the unions. Be careful with contact info!!!! This service is open to anyone, so just saying you're with (for instance) SAG is enough already. For those outside of the unions some form of contact info could be of benefit.
To keep the fans from phoning the agents, I'd like to keep a separate file with official fan addresses for actors (even those not on this service). So if you've got one, please send it along.
What I need is a headshot (close-up) of the actor. I'll display it smallish (170 pixels in height). I'd like to shrink and crop it myself, so if you have a recent headshot just let me know where I can go get it on the web, or send it to me. I need the permission to display the photo for this use, because of copyright restrictions on NativeCelebs. I can also display who holds the copyright to the photo (on a separate page). I have a snail mail address, and if you have no access to a scanner, ask me for that address. I would like to use a few of the photos at a time at 170 pixels height on the rest of my site to promote the casting service as well.
I also need details that would be appropriate for a first glance look at the actor. Such as name, what unions he/she belongs to (SAG, ACTRA, UBCP,EQUITY etc), possibly contact information (but remember the fans are also going to see this, so it's not a given), what kind of actor (action, stunts, character). In fact, I'm open for suggestions, the template may still go through changes, but by now I've decided on the limits of this service for the most part (because it's not closed, unlike most other casting services). One link to a homepage of your choice (about the actor). I can also put in javascript notices with more info about links (such as a screened e-mail address).

I'll keep actors with similar looks on the same page as more actors join the service - but also group them according to experience if possible. That means the listings will move around a little eventually. |

The pages won't be any bigger than what the Men 1 page is now. 8 actors on each page max, in other words. The pages will look good in 800x600 and possibly 640x480 resolution. |

One of the representatives commented that color photos would look better on my black bacground. Maybe he had a point. Black and White is the industry standard, so it's really up to you what you have and what you want to show. The photo should be good and sharp - don't send in snaps unless they're REALLY good! (November 99) I changed the design, but still kept a black area around the photos. Color still looks best. |

I'm probably going to put those who are NA, but not AI on a separate page. Aleuts, inuits, other NA. Unless they also have AI blood (like Eric Schweig). |

I also got the possibly great idea of keeping extras on separate pages. I know people who'd like to break into the business by being extras (or whatever the SAG definition is these days - background actors?). So that's an option too. I'll e-mail agents as new actors and extras join, so they'll have a chance to take a look. |
