So... What got this site started? Well the tale involves one actor/singer, and one friend.

This website started because I wanted to promote a friend (Duane Loken). At first there weren't all that many surfers stopping by, so I decided a needed a showstopper. I realized there was no information on native actors out there, and started collecting names. Pretty soon it grew into a linklist. The traffic started picking up, and I decided to keep the ball rolling by adding stuff. It's become a linklist for Native American actors. There are still some profile pages, though lately I've removed more and more of them as more and more actors get sites of their own. The casting section is probably more important now - and I'm starting to update it (January 2008). It's been stagnant for a few years now.

I guess it might be hard to get a grip on the person behind this site. Well, my name is Annie, and I'll be your host for this evening.... ;-) The song playing in the background is mine - I'm singing, and I also wrote it.

A lot of people have asked me whether or not I'm native myself. The answer is no. I have mostly Scandinavian blood, and not one drop of native blood whatsoever. I'm not a native wannabe either, like so many others who have "native" sites on the web. When I started this thing it was as an attempt to draw attention to a friend of mine that I was building a homepage for.

At first I thought white fans of native actors would find it interesting to get to know even more Native American actors. I already knew that all of Duane's fans were white (or so I thought then, because that's not the case anymore), so it wasn't a wild idea. As I've built on this site I've discovered that the Native Americans themselves are their actors' biggest fans.

It's changed the way I go about building this site. Because of the whites I keep those who are only rumored to be native on the list, but due to the many Native Americans who strive to keep their culture authentic I strive to identify the tribal information on each actor. It's impossible for me to keep it straight all the time, so I rely on information from friends and from surfers. I can't keep everybody happy, but I try to be fair as far as I know how. In one way that's my strength as a non-NA. I don't get caught up in the high tension and feelings on this issue. And believe me, this is a very important issue for the Native Americans themselves. I won't get into this here. It's not my field. I hope to be able to bring you guys articles and links that can teach you more about this.

I guess many would like to know more about me. Well, when I started this thing I decided to stay anonymous in case it would "take off". For a long time I was just anonymous Annie. As the site matured, it  made sense to let more people know who I am, and by now it's necessary to be totally open about it. By now the actors are checking the site out themselves, as are other industry people. So, my identity is out, although it took me a long time to be comfortable with that. It helps that I'm now willing to be a public person even in my home country - Norway.

Here's the short version of who I am, for more check out my website

I'm not an actor, nor do I have any aspirations in that area. My age? I'm not quite as cagey as Duane... But let's just say the photo of me (above, with the white background) is from December 2007. Feel free to guess...

I've been working in the computer industry for a while. I know the innards of a webserver and a mailserver, and have rescued more than one computer and server over the time I've been doing this.

I'm not entourage material - not a yes-person. From what I've learned about many Indian actors, most of them aren't that stuck up either. What I am is a person who's been on the internet since May 1996, and most of that time I've been dealing with fan-sites, official sites, fans and actors. Over the years I've assembled more than one insight into what can make the internet safer for a celebrity and more enjoyable for fans. That means I'll be cheeky enough to advice the stars on how they should behave on the internet, and I expect them to honor my expertise here, as I honor their expertise in acting.

Privacy: I used to have a rolodex with contact addresses. By now it's totally outdated, so I'm starting all over again (January 2008). I collect e-mail addresses in an address book. Don't worry, it's not the kind of address book that gets exploitet by e-mail worms.... My policy has been for a long time not to divulge contact information to anyone else unless authorized. I've extended that courtesy even to the fans except in certain circumstances 1) When they're trying to contact a celeb I've often forwarded their mails to either a contact of the celeb or the celeb. 2) When the info was left in a public forum, such as a message board etc. 3) I occasionally get disturbing mails, and do whatever is appropriate with them - depending on each situation.

The address book will be under lock and key, and I won't divulge the contents to anyone, except when asked to forward certain info by the owner of the info. Doesn't matter who is asking for that information. Same rules for everyone.

Webmaster: My name is Annie. I'm not native, and therefore not an authority on native issues. I do make mistakes, so please correct me and help me make this a better site. NativeCelebs is about Native American Indians in the entertainment industry.
