Written by Lonnie Cruse - she sent it to numerous lists after she'd written it ca April 26 2000. Well, folks, I just learned a hard but valuable lesson, the purpose of using the BLIND CARBON COPY function when sending an e-mail to more that one person, rather that just plain carbon copy, which displays the addresses of everyone you send to, to everyone else! I want to share it with you folks. Ever get a joke from a friend where you had to scroll past two or three pages of addys first to get to the actual joke? Someone who knows you thought it was a scream and wanted to share with you, so they hit reply and sent it without bothering to use the blind carbon copy or erase ALL the addys that came before? Chances are, you are looking at dozens of addresses, most of them people you never heard of who never heard of you? Well, someone I barely know has been sending me and several other people religious notes using carbon copy and displaying all our addresses to everyone she sends to. Someone got all these addresses and used them. Result? I got some soft core porn pics in an e-mail with hard core porn suggestions accompanying this morning! Fortunately for me, THIS dummy didn't use BCC either when sending, so I was able to see the addresses she copied, and recognized the person she got MY addy from. (and yes, that person got a note in the mail from me!) I, too, have been guilty of using carbon copy rather than BCC, or hitting reply and not deleting the addys at the top, but NO MORE! So, please learn a lesson from me, either use BCC when sending out several copies, or delete the addys some thoughtless person sent you when hitting reply. Save your friends some hassle! My .02 for the morning, and yes I sent this to everyone I know using BCC! Related: Privacy |
